Cons :

1. The glass on the watch is slightly curved, which makes it reflect light from various sources behind you. Many watches in this price range have such a glass and I dont quite see the reason for it, as its not acting as a lens either. Minor irritant at times.

2. The watch is slightly loose on the wrist in one position of tightening and too tight in the very next ( not removing links but just using consecutive holes on the clasp ). I am a motorcycle rider and when slightly loose, the watch rides up to the end of the wrist and gets in the way of bending/twisting the wrist. This also happens while not riding, though not as often. Though a slight irritant to me, its not something that will affect everyone.

Pros :

The watch looks like its pictures, feels very solid and well made, great wrist strap, and has a nice face which is relatively uncluttered despite all the functions. Good looking hands but the smaller hands on the day / date could have been better. The rotating bezel also feels very solid and makes satisfying clicks while turning.

A very good buy for the price indeed.

This is my first G-Shock watch, and I must say I am very pleased and impressed with my purchase. For those of you who are looking to buy a G-Shock, I suggest you look into buying this one. Don’t let the white color scare you, it looks a lot better in-person than in the pictures they provide here. Being a college student I decided I needed a decent watch to start keeping better track of time. I could have done this with a $20 watch from Target, but I wanted to treat myself to something a bit nice for a change, and something that could withstand my daily activities. (I’m also very athletic.) With that, I think I’ve made the right choice.

Here are some details about the watch:

Let’s start with the straps. I haven’t owned any other G-Shocks, but this G-Shock has straps that doesn’t fully extend 180 degrees. Meaning it won’t lay flat on a table like some of the traditional watches. It stays stationary in a position where it almost encompasses in a full circle without it fully coming together. There are no moving parts where the strap meets the actual watch head. Instead the straps themselves are flexible enough to bend and fit an individuals wrist. I like the way they did this because it feels secure in my hands and ultimately feels compact and well structured. The straps themselves seem to be made of good quality resin. It definitely doesn’t have that ‘cheap’ feel to it. I love the detail they put into the buckle, where they imprinted: “CASIO, JAPAN” into the metal.

I believe there are enough holes in the strap to accommodate almost anyone’s wrist; thick or skinny, unless you’re some sort of body builder or someone who has huge wrist.

I like the actual size of the watch head. I’m 6 feet tall with a decent build and the watch matches me perfectly, no awkwardness or anything. The tiny letters that they imprinted on the inside of the watch might be an issue with people who can’t see small print, but I believe once you get to use the watch and get accustomed to it. The buttons “MODE” button makes beeping noises every time it is clicked, which hardly bothers me at all. The instructions in the manual is easy to understand and follow, so setting up the watch and learning all of its functionality shouldn’t be a problem for most people.

The back light does it job well. The button is easy to push and access. When you press it in the dark you can see the numbers clearly. The bezel around the watch has the words of what each button does engraved into it. I can only see a problem later in the future when you wear it around a lot and you get a bit of dirt into it, which honestly shouldn’t stop you from buying this watch. The word “G-Shock” at the top of the bezel is also engraved and colored in dark purple, which is different from the “G” engraved into the back light button which is a lavender color. This difference is actually pleasing to look at and actually matches the watch well. The three circles that indicate the battery life, alarm settings, and the ‘live-seconds-timer’ also adds nicely to the look of the watch, and actually serves a purpose. On the back of the watch they have the metal covering that’s engraved in letters.

I believe this watch has all the function it needs AND more to fulfill its duty as a multi-functional watch. I don’t think anyone will be complaining about what it has and what it doesn’t have. It simply has it all.

You also have to love the price they sell this watch for here on Amazon. It’s a lot cheaper than buying it from the actual Casio G-Shock site, and you don’t need to worry about it being fake like some of the ones they sell on eBay and such. I ordered this from the West Coast and it arrived from New York in less than 4 days.

If you are unable to step outside the battery will charge off of a fluoroscent bulb indoors but takes approximately 8 hours to fully recharge.

To make timekeeping easy there is the radio atomic time keeping function. Follow the simple directions to update the watch to your home town and it will receive radio signals throughout the day to keep the time up to date. For someone like Steve who is habitually behind schedule this combined with the three daily alarms will be hopefully be keeping him on schedule in the new year.

If you are a business person that travels to and from different time zones and/or work with others in different time zones you may have the problem I do. While I work a set schedule from our house in the Eastren time zone, my boss works a different schedule from me and she works it in Arizona. Anyway digital watches, those chapalangs, are so cheap, cost about $4 – $5.00 depends where you bought from, you can afford to buy a few of them at one go. For your info, they last as long as originals. In fact until their battery flat and I threw them away as getting new batteries is just as expensive as getting anothe new one. The first baby G I bought was great, lasted for more than 2 yrs and still going. I bought another one for my younger daughter. After 3 wks (1 month from date of order), one of the buttons fell off. My daughter wear it to swimming. She is not an active child. So I sent it in for repair. I got a quote of $30 plus tax, shipping for a $50+ watch to replace the button!!

I was shocked it is not covered under the warranty. So I called the service representative According to her, warranty covers only the mechanistic functioning of the watch. Everything can fall off but if it works, then you are out of luck. But again, they can say you abuse the watch. So I said can’t it be a quality control issues? She said, there is no recall. I said not necessary a recall type just manufacturing problem. She said if so, then I would have seen it once I open the box and their QC is 100% !!!!!! Wow, I am amaze. I need to work in Casio manufacturing. She said, “I am not saying it is your child but maybe she hit it somewhere…” At this point I felt that this lady was just saying anything she wants (100% QC!!!)

I said I want to talk to the supervisor, she said “no” since this is not an issue for sup. I insisted and finally someone who claim to be a manager talked to me (This “manager” even got my name wrong). Repeated the whole thing plus that I used tapes to tape the watch onto the box. She said that (the tape) was also a problem!!! I replied that it was done to prevent the watch from “jumping” around during shipping. Wow, now I know that baby G needs to breath so it cannot be taped. Then said my daughter is young, active …. I shut her up by saying, this watch claimed to be for sports. If she cannot jump, swim in it then what good is it? There was no dents or deep scatches on the watch (I want to say no scratch but I never know). She said she will see what she can do and call me. We shall see.

And one reviewer mentioned that the watch gets stuff on it. This one did. Maybe because of the daily swimming my daughter did. That was also a problem she mentioned about this watch not being covered under warranty.

I can understand that it may not be covered but the first representative was totally abnoxious. Telling me that it CANNOT be casio’s problem. I will not buy a casio product anymore because many camera owners reported problem with their warranties too.

That’s the best selling item in each of their categories. As you can see it’s a good mix of the obvious and the banal. Well, what were you expecting?

But let’s look a little more closely at the categories that actually interest us. In electronics, the vanilla Kindle v2 is followed by two iPod touch models, the Flip UltraHD, the Kindle DX, and a Blu-ray player. I think that speaks well of adoption rates for new technologies. The DX is surprising, though, considering it’s extremely expensive.

In software, there’s the usual boring mix of Office, financial stuff, and upgrades (Windows 7 edging out Snow Leopard). Lots of netbooks in the computer category. I’m thinking a lot of those went out as gifts. Unsurprisingly, iPhone accessories dominate the phones category. Whatever you may say about that phone, it’s eminently accessorizable. And of course, in video games, the Wii is king.

Complicated setup
I needed a magnifying glass to try and read the instructions – which I think were poorly written. All the features aren't still working for me. I have put it away until I get more time to try and understand all the procedures. Too complicated for a 70 year old man! I wouldn't recommend this watch – although I thought the appearance of it was good.

Great affordable watch!
Despite the bad reviews on the manual and configuring this watch, I bought the watch anyway. And to my delight, as long as you read the manual prior to trying to setup this watch, I found it very easy to setup and it works like a charm. So, for you people that think manuals are for whimps… I suggest reading the manual prior to setting this watch up, and save yourself the aggravation that some of the reviewers here posted. Can't be any happier with this watch!!! Would recommend anybody to get it!

Great watch
I bought this watch as a “beater” to travel with. The ability to quickly change time zones makes this watch invaluable when hopping from airport to airport. The solar recharging means there is no worry about the battery dying en-route, and the water resistance to a generous 100M means no problem going from hotel room to pool and just jumping in. The stopwatch is also very convenient for those times when I decide to take a morning run for exercise. Though difficult to set up at first, once you “get it”, it is quick and easy. I also like the alarms and backlighting on the digital readout. Though I bought it as a “beater”, I have gained a whole new respect for this watch by using it. So much so that I am asking myself why I need a very expensive mechanical watch when this one is more accurate than a Rolex. It doesn't set off the airport screening alarms with its plastic case, it looks good enough for business, and I can buy a hundred of these for the price of a “Big Name” mechanical watch. When it gets dinged up, I can buy a new one. One downside….it won't automatically update in Hawaii…too far, I guess, from either the Denver or Tokyo transmitter. But with its +/- 3 second/month accuracy that has not proved to be a significant problem. This is a great watch…I love it…I would recommend it for “Road Warriors” and anyone else that wants a good watch at a good price and needs an accurate timepiece.

Great watch except for one thing…
I have this watch and another that is very similar in silver with a metal band. Overall I really like this watch but I am subtracting one star because I believe that it is one of the more complicated watches to understand and set. You really need the manual… and the manual can be a little difficult to follow.

1. This is a great looking sports watch, and the light is really bright – it's a white LED both at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock, so it allows for nice visibility in low light. The stainless steel case is nicely polished and looks very sharp. This watch really looks more expensive than it is, and I've had people ask about it when wearing it. It's an eye catching watch.
The MDV102-1AV is 200m water resistant, which means it can handle you going swimming, snorkeling, even some diving without much problem. This watch has a screw-down crown too, which makes it even more water resistant. The only thing to watch out for is washing the dishes, hot tubbing, or showering with it – warm/hot water isn't great for watertight seals on watches. I've heard it can weaken the seals and cause a leak.

2. The watch is very well built with high quality workmanship. It's also water resistant up to 200 meters. You can swim, shower and dive with this watch without worrying about water getting into it. The crown on the watch is a screw-in crown, so no water, dirt or dust can get into the watch. I also love the “Super Illuminator” light that this watch has. When you press the button that's located at the 2 o'clock position, the entire face of the watch lights up and stays lit for 3 seconds. The light is very bright and as bright as a flashlight. You can also let the light to stay on just by keeping the button depressed for however long that you like. The watch is not heavy on the wrist and it's very comfortable to wear.
